I'm in the process of getting a new display. One of the things that really hit me when I read your book was when I performed the monitor tests that you suggested on my Apple Cinema Display. I hate to ask you about specific models, because unless you're personally in the market for a display, it's hard to keep up with the constant flow of new products. Is there someone you trust that I can talk to? I find it hard with the higher end displays to find a local retailer that I can talk to and trust. Online "malls" seem difficult too.

Any thoughts?

P.S. In case you are up on the latest models! The Eizo CG221 at ~$5k is so expensive. Have you heard anything about the CG240w? Or what about this new Lacie 324 for about $1000? The one thing I've read about Lacie is that they have poor customer service.

In terms of sheer value (performance for the cost) it's hard to beat the NEC Multisync 90 series models. Look for models ending in SXi or UXi. Great displays at very reasonable prices (skip the wide gamut models). To get the most of out the display though, you've got to use NEC's Spectraview II software. It works with third party colorimeters. If you search their site you can find bundles which include monitor plus calibration software (and colorimeter too, I think).
