Full Version: Buying New Printer for B&W Prints

Tino
Hello - I am about to start doing my own B&W printing and have narrowed it down to the Espon 2400 and HP 9180 printers. I am really attracted to fibre based papers that reflect silver printing (Museo Silver Rag, Han. Pearl, Innova Fibra Print UltraSmooth); I also like toning my photos to warm them up a bit and give them depth.

My question:

Which printer based on my printing interests will give me the most output options (paper and toning) and of course the most consistant/best results?

Thanks for the help.

BTW - Amadou, I read your book numerous times which is why I am going to start doing my own printing; it was been an invaluable resource.

Thanks.

Tino,
Thanks for the kind words about the book. The 2400 will probably offer more flexibility paper-wise, as the Epsons are what vendors make their papers compatible with. You'd also be able to find 2400 canned profiles for any number of 3rd party papers. From my very limited look at the B9180 prints, there's not a whole lot separating these two printers quality-wise for BW. The HP Z series is a whole 'nother story, but those are much larger and more expensive machines.
