I been having the Joy of Canon Tech Support recently. They won't talk to me about what actually goes on in their drivers, so how do you figure out what settings to use for non-Canon papers other than trial-and-error? That gets kind of expensive in large formats.

It seems that Media Street has dye inks for refilling the CLI-8 cartridges on the Pixma Pro9000. Anyone have experience doing this? Are there any ink refills available for the ipf5000, or is it Canon ink only?

Thanks in advance.

To date, no one has been as forthcoming as HP with providing documentation of the effects of various media settings. Without this info, trial and error is the only way. Because Epson has such a large user base, 3rd party paper vendors often provide suggested Epson media settings for their papers. I would try the Canon wiki and ask other users for suggestions for a particular paper.
