The book, on pg 147, Color to Monochrome Conversion, said:

Wouldn't it be great to just have a grayscale digital camera instead?

Actually such a camera is (or better said was) available under the name Kodak Professional DCS 760M.
Specs from the manufacturer.
A review from a user.
I said "is available" because i saw it once on ebay but the price was quite high.

So, knowing this, the statement

The book, on pg 140, Demosaicing Algorithms, said:

In case you got excited back when i mentioned that the raw captures are grayscale, this process is not user-adjustable. So you'll never be able to prevent your image from being processed in color.
is not quite true, don't you think?

I'm aware of the discontinued Kodak monochrome DSLR. It's production was limited to a very small number. In the book I have to talk about currently available options. One day we may see single channel capture devices. In fact Llyod Chambers has just started a petition for a mono back from Phase One. But for now...
